A vegetarian diet is when I person chooses not to eat meat. Some vegetarians also choose not to eat eggs, milk, cheese and fish. Eating the way a vegetarian does is also a great way to lose some weight.

Statistics: it is estimated that only 8% of the UK’s population are vegetarians and most of them are women. Teenagers between the ages of 15-18 are more likely to become vegetarians than middle aged people. Children who are brought up as a vegetarian will often carry on eating this way later on in life.
Vitamins: many people worry that eating the vegetarian way will not provide the body with enough vitamins and nutrients. Many vegetarians will eat plant like foods which are full of important vitamins and minerals. Vitamin supplements are found in most health shops and many vegetarians use these.
The different types of vegetarian: There are many different types of vegetarianism some only choose not to eat red meats and some choose not to eat any form of meat at all. This is a vegan and they would not eat eggs, fish or cheese and would not use milk.
Why are people vegetarians: people who choose to be a vegetarian often eat this way because they care immensely about animals although many people choose to eat like this to lose weight.
A vegetarian diet should be well balanced in order for them to stay healthy. Being a vegetarian can take a lot of planning especially if you still wish to eat certain foods. You would also need to know what foods can give you those all important vitamins and nutrients. A vegetarian diet is can sometimes be unhealthy simply because people think as long as they eat their body will survive but without vitamins and nutrients the body can suffer.
Researchers have warned that a vegetarian way of eating may not be healthy if used to lose weight unless a lot of planning has gone into the diet. It is also not advised to take extra special care if you are feeding a child a vegetarian diet simply because their bodies need plenty of vitamins and nutrients to grow correctly. It has never been deemed unsafe for children but their dietary needs must be planned carefully. If a child is not allowed to drink milk then they would often be given a soya substitute. Calcium is a very important ingredient in a Childs diet because it helps their bones to develop.
If you want to become a vegetarian or vegan then you must plan your very diet carefully and ensure you get enough vitamins and nutrients for the body.
