What Is The Atkins Diet And Is It Right For You?

Before the Low-Carb Diet, there was the Atkins Diet. The Atkins Diet has been around for many years and still holds its ground when it comes to losing weight.

As with any diet, the Atkins Diet is not just a diet, it’s a lifestyle; or it should be for anyone who is interested in giving the diet a shot, at least.  One of the unique things about the Atkins Diet is that it is a diet which has been researched by a wide variety or well-respected health organizations.

Research has been done with medication organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association and the Veterans Healthcare Network

Atkins dietCarbohydrates are necessary to provide the body with energy, but if you eat too many carbohydrates, your body will only burn some of it as energy and then will store the remaining as fat.  If you eat fewer carbohydrates (avoiding white flour and sugar), your body is better able to burn fat as its primary fuel source.

The principle of the Atkins Diet is to teach the user how to eat the right foods so that their body changes from carb-burning to fat-burning.  When your body stops burn carbohydrates and burns fat instead, you lose weight faster and easier.  Research shows that people who follow the Atkins Diet properly can lose up to 15 pounds in the first two weeks of the program.  The diet also helps people to live healthier and keep the fat from piling back on.

The Atkins Diet may sound great, but it’s not for everyone.  It’s important that you find a diet to fit your specific lifestyle in order for you to be successful.

If you are overweight despite the fact that you feel you do not eat too much and you don’t have any luck losing weight even if you follow diets to the letter, you may want to consider the Atkins Diet.  Some people just can’t seem to lose weight and they may notice that thinner people around them seem to be consuming more calories, yet are staying thin and fit.

Other questions to ask yourself are whether or not you tend to lose and gain the same ten or fifteen pounds?  Do you feel content after eating a supposedly well-balanced meal?

You may be getting the idea of the Atkins Diet.  The diet isn’t for everyone, but if you think it might work for you, it’s definitely worth giving it a shot.  If you’re concerned about whether or not this diet may be a healthy choice for you and your specific medical conditions, speak to your doctor about it.
